Early Life
I was born and brought up in Wembley which is a large suburb in North-West London. I was raised in an extended family, with my two brothers, older sister and cousins. My grandma played a big part in raising us, as my parents had to work in order to support a large growing family. There was a big emphasis on education by all in my family and we were all encouraged to read and regularly visit our local library to get new books. My parents believed the more you read, the more knowledge you could gain.
Love of Reading
Ever since I was a little girl, I used to love getting immersed in a great book. I feel that books have the ability to make words come alive and really build a picture in the reader's mind.
Growing up, I loved reading Roald Dahl books and some of my all time favourites have to be; Fantastic Mr Fox , The Twits and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
School
In school, I loved Art and English lessons, especially when we would have the opportunity to create our own stories and build fictitious characters. It allowed us to really use our imagination and get creative.
I absolutely enjoyed every part of school and my teachers were very inspiring educators who encouraged and pushed me to achieve my desired goals.
From a very young age, I wanted to be a teacher just like them and so I went on to fulfil this dream. Studying really hard throughout my school years, finally in 2005 I graduated with a BA (Hons) and became a primary school teacher. This was the proudest moment for me and my family, especially my father Rajendra Maru and uncle Ashwin Maru (who is a dear father figure to me).
Hobbies
In my spare time, I now like reading spiritual and motivational books, I love writing and I have a passion for painting and drawing. I love being inspired by artists such as the late Leonid Afremov and Claude Monet. I also love cooking and enjoy exploring and tasting food from all over the world, but my all time favourite cuisine has to be Italian, pizzas and pasta all day I say!
Career
I have now been teaching for over 15 years. Currently I work for a school in East London. Earlier on in my teaching career, I decided to teach abroad and so went to the UAE for 2 years and taught in a school in Dubai. I have also taught in many parts of London from Wembley, Harrow to East London where I later moved to after I got married.
Later Life
I got married in 2014 to Punit Rajpara, who has been my support and rock ever since I met him. He has constantly encouraged me to pursue my dreams and see what the future holds if I just took the first daring step. So in 2020, after a lots of contemplating and 15 years of hard, dedicated teaching service, I decided to take a break from that busy life to see what other opportunities were out there.
However, as soon as I left, I fell pregnant and later that year I gave birth to my beautiful twin girls, Rudri-Leela and Tulsi-Leela. This was truly a blessing that came our way!
I now live with my husband and extended family in Enfield, raising my girls with their cousin sisters, grandparents and uncle and aunty.
